If you've considered purchasing Adobe Illustrator CS5 for your business and downloaded the free trial version to experiment with it, your demo copy provides 30 days of the same functionality as a registered copy of the application. During the demo period or after it expires, you can convert your trial version to a registered working copy of the software -- providing that you own or can find a legitimate installer that includes a serial number.

Launch the trial version of Adobe Illustrator CS5. A dialog box displays the number of days remaining on your trial or alerts you that your 30 days have ended. Enter the serial number from the full or upgraded copy you already purchased in the boxes on this screen. Look for the serial number on the DVD case of a physical installer, on your Adobe ID account pages on the Adobe website or in an email message you received from Adobe Systems when you bought and downloaded the software.
2.Type in the serial number of a qualifying previous version of Adobe Illustrator, if your new serial number comes from an upgrade version. If you make a mistake while you're typing, you'll see a red 'X' after the serial-number entry area.
3.Connect to Adobe Systems via the Internet and let the installer activate your software -- make sure to disable pop-up blockers and turn off firewalls, anti-virus software and third-party security software before you start. To activate software on a computer with no online access, contact Adobe Systems directly. If you can't authorize it immediately, your software will run for 30 days and stop launching after that point.

Tips
- Because Adobe Illustrator CS5 does not represent the current version of the software as of the date of publication, you can't purchase a license from Adobe Systems to turn your demo copy into a registered installation. You can look for a legitimate, unregistered copy on online auction websites or buy a registered copy from a user who agrees to complete the registration transfer process.
- Purchase unregistered previous-version software with care. Verify that you can return the product if the seller misrepresents a registered copy as new.
- Users of Illustrator CS2 through CS4 qualified for varying upgrade prices on CS5, with older versions costing more to upgrade than newer ones.
Warning
- Resist the temptation to try to extend the demo period beyond 30 days by reinstalling the trial edition or setting back the clock date on your computer. These tactics will void any remaining demo period.
